Today, I would like to show my flowering strap leaf vanda orchids. There are 3 of them that has flowered and 1 has a spike of 2 inches. These strap leaf vanda orchids came from Thailand. I have them for more than 2 years already. They are the first ones that I bought when I started collecting orchids. I bought them in the farm. At the time, 2 years ago, I was so enthusiastic of having orchids. I built my greenhouse that I spent about 150,000 pesos.
After building my greenhouse, that’s the time that I have to look for orchids. Farms are far from our home, but with such cravings, I could drive far just to visit an orchid farm or shop that offer some orchids for sale. When I went to the farm, I bought 15 strap leaf vandas in blooming size. I was excited that I researched a lot to find out how to take care of them because it was my first time to have strap leaf vandas. I think, with considerable amount of research, I was able to take care of them and none of them died. Some of my friends come and see them whenever I post them in Facebook when they bloom. Before, I only have them stay in the greenhouse even when they bloom, but recently, I have realized that I could put them on display in the garden when them bloom, and if they are not in bloom, they will stay in the greenhouse. I feel like it is like a waste not to show them off, if they just stay in the greenhouse since we get some visitors also.
In this video, I will show you how I displayed them in the garden. It is such a good feeling that I could display them whenever they bloom. We have many palm trees and I just hang them there when they flower and they look nice with the palm trees. Also, while they in the palm trees, they are under the shade which is a requirement for strap leaf vandas to be in a bright shaded area, but no direct sunlight, and the palm trees provide just that. Also, they get a good movement of air that brushes their roots hanging.
