Today, I saw my vanda’s three pods which I pollinated about 2 months ago. It triggers me to share how I pollinated it in this video. I know that there are a lot of people curious how to get orchids bear pods. Some people I read in Facebook groups even bought phalaenopsis orchids seed online and they would ask me, as I am an admin in that group, how to plant the seeds and what kind of media should they use. When I replied to them they it will not grow as it would bet rotten by bacteria. Most of the orchid seeds have to be planted or germinated in a laboratory, I told them, which totally surprised them. They even like begging, that some of the seeds that they bought would at least have one seed at least to successfully grow. I told them that it is almost 100 percent that nothing will germinate.
In this video, I illustrated how to self pollinate as well as how to cross pollinate. I also kind of inform them with emphasis that after harvesting the pods, they should send them to laboratory, so they would think why, it has to be sent to laboratory. At least it would give them a hint that the seeds that will be harvested can not be planted in just a regular way of planting plants.
In this video, I made two self pollination and two cross pollination to have them really get how pollination works.
Hopefully, my video will give them something to look forward that they can make seeds out of their orchids. Philippines was one of the first nation that was able to germinate orchids in the laboratories, but because it lacked of support from the government, this important leap for the orchids enthusiasts were neglected and it is only now again that Filipinos are getting back to growing orchids of their own. Mostly of the orchids that we see in the orchid stores came from Thailand and Taiwan. Some are from China. I would be very glad if my video will get many views, which would give me confirmation that Filipinos would like now to grow orchids of their own.
